Bernice Rowan
Acting Tutor
Bernice comes to us with twenty-five years of directing and teaching experience. After gaining a BA Hons in Theatre, Politics and Philosophy from Exeter University, she went on to postgraduate study at Bretton Hall.
As a director, she has developed an extensive and varied catalogue of over forty plays and Musicals. Credits include; Godspell, Return to the Forbidden Planet, Addams Family, Fame, Footloose, Cabaret, Sweet Charity, Rent, Gypsy, The Wiz, Chicago, A Chorus Line, Holes, Blood Wedding, Protection, Earthquakes in London, Equus, Dumb Waiter, The Suffrage Plays, A View from A Bridge, Top Girls, The Butterfly’s Evil Spell, Road, Two, Scenes from Explicit Polaroids, Blackout, The Static, Oedipus, Miss Julie, A Doll’s House, The Importance of being Earnest, The Bear, The Proposal, The Dangers of Tobacco, Tis Pity She’s a Whore, The Tempest, Cymbeline, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Romeo and Juliet and, most recently, an all-female reimagining of Macbeth.
As an educator, Bernice has been an advisor for the WJEC exam board and consortium leader of Drama for Leicestershire. Within a college setting, she has been Learning Co-ordinator for FE and HE Performing Arts and Lead Practitioner for Teaching and Learning across the campus. Bernice has been and HE module leader across several specialist areas including Classical Theatre, Performance Skills, Contemporary Theatre, Acting Techniques, Approaches to Text, Physical Theatre, Lecoq Mask and Independent Study.
